how does this work?


This is the unofficial Dream Width version of the Live Journal community Holiday Wishes. Everyone is welcome, regardless of what you celebrate or where in the world you live. This community is all about wishes - and this is how it works:

Step One
  • Make a post in this community. The post should contain your list of TEN holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple ("I'd love a Star Trek icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
  • If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, such as an e-mail address. Your home address is NOT required!
Step Two
  • Look around for other people's wishlists. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.
  • You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. Your wishlist may contain up to 10 wishes
You may include less, but please do not include more. We do permit the inclusion of one external wishlist as one of the wishes, i.e. "Wish #7: Anything from my Amazon wishlist," but wishlists with multiple links will be rejected and asked to be revised.
Please note that we also monitor for wishlists which try to sneak extra items in, either unintentionally (such as "Wish #2: Books (Interview with the Vampire, Harry Potter 6, The Silmarillion, American Gods, and any of the Dark Tower series).") or intentionally (such as "Wish #5: Any CDs by U2 or REM. Doctor Who Season 2 on DVD.") Moderators reserve the right to make a judgement on what constitutes one wish.

2. No PayPal begging
PayPal buttons and general solicitations for PayPal donations are not allowed. For example, you may not write "I'm broke, send me money," but you may ask for specific help towards buying school textbooks or paying for a pet's surgery. Share your paypal email address only; do not clutter up people's flists with the graphical paypal buttons.

3. Contact information should be posted sensibly
While we suggest that you do include contact information with your wishlist (such as an e-mail address that you frequently check), please do not post your home address on your wishlist. This is a public community, and this is the Internet. We can't ensure that everyone who joins, watches, or just browses this community is a wholesome individual.

4. Do not update your wishlist
Please do not add new wishes to your wishlist in the event that a wish has been granted. You may strike out a wish that has been granted, but you may NOT replace it with a new one. That's to keep it fair - you got 10 wishes, no more.

Posts in this community are monitored. If you can't stick to the rules, your wishlist will not be published. Any community moderators may also edit any post that defies the rules.
